Everything you need to know
This FAQ answers the most frequently asked questions about how the Alexander Awards work and the conditions for taking part.
Exact dates (submission opening and closing, eligibility periods, awards ceremony, etc.) are intentionally not mentioned below: they are announced and updated for each edition on www.alexander-awards.com and on the submission platform. Please always refer to those for the current schedule.
General
The Alexander Awards recognize the best watch-industry communication projects, across several categories (for example photography, editorial/publishing, etc.).
The full list of categories open for the current edition is available on the website and on the submission platform.
In addition to the prizes awarded per category, an additional trophy, THE GREAT, distinguishes the best project of the edition, across all categories.
The first phase is submission. All candidates submit their project(s) through the submission platform. At this stage, submitted projects are not made public.
Once the submission deadline has passed, the jury selects nominees for each category. It is only once the jury’s work is complete that the nominees are published: only the projects selected by the jury are made public. This is also the point at which public voting opens.
Ahead of the awards ceremony, the jury meets again to determine the winner of each category as well as the winner of THE GREAT. These results are announced publicly during the awards ceremony.
The exact dates for each of these steps are communicated for every edition on the website and on the submission platform: please refer to those for the current schedule.
Nominees are entitled to use the Alexander Awards brand to indicate that they were nominated for the edition concerned.
Winners, in addition to this right to use the brand, receive a physical trophy.
All nominees (and winners) gain visibility across the Alexander Awards’ communication channels, as well as on the website, in the archive of past editions.
THE GREAT is an additional trophy, separate from the prizes awarded per category. It is given by the jury to the best project of the edition, across all categories.
The Young Talent category is awarded to a group of students from one of the Alexander Awards’ partner schools. Details on this category (partner schools, terms, etc.) are available on its dedicated presentation page on the website.
Yes. In addition to the official categories, the jury may, at its discretion, grant special nominations to projects or individuals who particularly stand out in watch communication, even outside of the submission process.
These special nominations can therefore be granted to people or projects that did not submit an entry through the submission platform.
Any person or entity involved in a watch communication project can submit that project: a brand, an agency, a photographer, a content creator, an independent contractor, etc. You do not need to be a watch brand yourself to enter.
Choosing a category
No. The Alexander Awards do not recognize a watch or a watch product as such, but a watch communication project: a campaign, photography, a publication, digital content, etc. It is therefore not the watch itself that is submitted, but the way it was communicated.
We are not in a position to recommend a category, as we do not have visibility into the full range of communication projects you have produced.
It is therefore up to you to review the different categories presented on the website and on the submission platform, and to ask yourself, for each one, whether one of your projects matches the criteria described. Feel free to check each category’s description to identify the one(s) that best fit your project.
Submission
A modest participation fee is required. It may vary from one category to another. By creating your account on the submission platform (submission.alexander-awards.com), you will be able to see the fee for the category of your choice.
As long as the submission deadline has not passed, you can always modify your submission (add or remove content, etc.). Even if you have completed the process and paid for your submission, it remains editable until the submission closing date.
Once that deadline has passed, nothing can be modified anymore. Make sure the content you wish to submit is ready by that date at the latest. The exact schedule is indicated on the website and on the submission platform.
Yes. By creating your account on the submission platform (submission.alexander-awards.com), you will be able to see the eligibility periods in effect by selecting the relevant category.
The submission platform will guide you through the process. The content required is fairly simple: a few text elements to explain the project’s context, along with photos and/or videos.
Nominees may subsequently be invited to submit a bit more content.
Yes.
Yes, but you will need to specify, in the description, which angle you are highlighting for each submission.
Note that the submission fee applies per submission: if the same project is submitted in 3 categories, that counts as 3 submissions, and therefore 3 times the fee.
The Alexander Awards are given to a watch communication project, not to a company or a brand: it is therefore the project that is entered for the award. If you win, it is the project that wins. You will then decide, among partners, who goes on stage to collect the trophy: this can be several people, from the brand, the agency, or contractors who worked on the project — noting that only one physical trophy is awarded.
In the presentation of nominees, only the name of the brand and/or the name of the project’s lead entity (agency, influencer, etc.) is shown. However, in the project’s description text, you may mention the names of the various companies that participated in the project.
Yes. As long as the jury has not completed its selection, submitted projects are not made public. Only the projects selected as nominees are subsequently published.
Your submission must be written in English.
Public vote
Once the jury has selected the nominees, the voting system opens to the public. The public can then choose, in their view, which project will win this trophy, across all categories.
The public votes among the nominees selected by the jury for each category.
Photography category
It can absolutely be a personal project. The jury will assess the artistic angle of the project.
Photos may be retouched in one way or another. However, it is important to mention this in the submission.
The jury evaluates a photographic work, which may be made up of one or several photos. The jury reviews each submission with an overall view of the project.
Editorial, Publishing & Literature category
We recommend doing so, so that jury members have a complete view of the project. You may, however, also send excerpts only.
Please note that these files are not made available to the public for the public vote.
Only the publications nominated by the jury will subsequently be presented to them in physical form. We will therefore contact nominated project owners to offer them the option of sending a physical copy for the jury.
This is not mandatory, but we recommend it.
