Taming The Whirlwind
Project overview
“Taming the Whirlwind” tells the story of Horage’s decision to build its own tourbillon movement after its external supplier withdrew from the project in 2019. With fewer than fifty employees, the company faced a choice: cancel the watch or make it themselves.
Directed by Patrick Neubäck, the twenty-two-minute documentary follows watchmaker Silvan Deutschmann and the team behind the Horage Tourbillon 1. Its purpose was to make a little-known world accessible, turning a complex engineering project into an engaging human story about perseverance, ingenuity and independent watchmaking.
The film addresses Horage’s collectors, the independent watchmaking community, watch journalists and enthusiasts who value engineering substance over brand prestige. It also reaches beyond watchmaking through the story of a small team taking on an improbable challenge.
As the centrepiece of Horage’s Concierge Cinema Tour, the film brings that story to audiences across North America, Europe and Asia, supported by shorter social media edits and press and retailer outreach. It has become a defining introduction to Horage, showing how the company works, what it believes in and the people behind its watches.
