An Unexpected Renaissance
Project overview
It starts with an original animated sequence retracing the life of François Czapek and the Maison’s origins, before transitioning to its modern rebirth through one of the watch industry’s most remarkable crowdfunding stories. It ends ten years later, with a manufacture that should not exist, and yet does.
An Unexpected Renaissance is a 50 minutes documentary revealing the true story behind Czapek’s revival: the founders, watchmakers, partners, shareholders and collectors who believed in the project from the very beginning, the challenges that tested its resilience, and the milestones that shaped one of today’s leading independent watchmakers. Filmed over a decade by Leo and Maxine of @maxScene Films, starting even before the relaunch in 2015 and combining exclusive interviews, archival footage and cinematic storytelling, it is both a documentary and a testament to the power of people united by a shared vision.
